Everyone is aware of how learning is essential in our lives. The first phase of 20 years of age we spend learning. We first learn how to walk, then talk, then read and eventually upgrade to complex subjects like biology and physics.
Imagine, when we were born, we didn’t learn based on how our parents’ styles of doing things. We didn’t learn to walk by seeing our parents walking or talk by listening to our fathers.
Our process of learning was straightforward, and it was through trying and failing. We learned to walk through raising and falling again and again. You first tried to crawl and failed, and then you kept on trying every day until you found yourself crawling. After that, you again realized you need to stand upright and walk on your own. You again tried and failed, then you finally made it.
Learning is a natural process that is driven by the factor of trying and failing. Learning a new skill was not pretty much easy when you were young. And you became good at it naturally through determination and commitments.
Imagine we spent over six months to start walking and then we spent almost another one year to balance ourselves and run competently.
It didn’t seem to be a hard task or something that we worked hard to achieve. We just did it out of motivation, and the growth sounded to be effortless. The in-built capacity in us to learn new skills was snatched away by the schooling system. And this is the point where the foundation of problems inaugurated.
We become the servants of the books. We were forced to respect the authorities and develop discipline and routine. Trying and failing was no longer encouraged. We were now learning through fear and punishment. When we were learning to walk, there was no punishment from parents, and it was enjoyable.
The schooling systems failed us. It was now difficult to try new things and fail, and it declined the creativity in us.
Today, technology has brought back our freedom to learn. Trying and failing is now back; our creative abilities are back with a boom. Technology has given birth to online education that provides us with the freedom to learn and try new skills. We are better off compared to the old generations.
So, how can we revive our capability to learn new skills?
Learn New Skills by Practising
We didn’t learn to walk or talk by sitting down and wait for the support from our parents. It was through you, realizing the need for learning to walk. You first had to look at the process of learning itself before taking action.
You realized that for you to walk, you first need to start crawling. Then you started crawling, then walking and then finally running. You made it because of the time invested in practicing the skill.
Try to apply this process in this modern era of technology. You have the internet, learn the new skill of your interest and practice to expertise your ability. There are a lot of resources on the internet.
Whether you want to learn photography, playing the guitar, digital marketing, or any other skill, the internet is there to guide you. You only need to PRACTICE and become good at it.
Expertise your Skills by Teaching Others
After becoming a guru in a particular field, you now need to teach others to keep yourself updated. Sometimes we take “expert” to mean the one at the top of their field.
In the real sense, the expert has to be an author, speaker, or anyone who has accomplished the thresholds that qualifies him to be named as an expert. But, everyone is an expert at some level because experts also learn from others. So, you are also an expert at your level. Teach others and make them reach your level, and your growth will improve tremendously. Start it today and avoid excuses. There is numerous platform you can use to teach others.
