This is a step by step guide on how to change logbook details in Kenya. One may be compelled to change logbook details as a result of changes made to the engine number, chassis number or colour of the vehicle.

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) must be informed whenever changes are made to the registered particulars of any vehicle. The authority must be informed so as to facilitate the amendment. This is in accordance with Section 6 (7) of the Traffic Act.

How to Apply for Change of Particulars

The first thing to do before applying for change of particulars (engine, body type, colour, chassis number…etc) is to book for inspection. Inspection fee is Kshs 1,050. This is done online via the NTSA/ TIMS portal.

You will only proceed with application for change of particulars once the inspection report has been uploaded.

  1. Log in to NTSA TIMS portal.
  2. Create new process.
  3. Click on vehicle registration number.
  4. Click on change of particulars.
  5. Select the particular item that you would like to make changes on.
  6. Go to details and make the required payment. The fee charged is Kshs 300 per change.
  7. Click on submit and the information will be sent to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for processing.

How to Apply for a New Logbook after Changes

  1. Log in to NTSA TIMS portal.
  2. Go to motor vehicle registration.
  3. Click on change of particulars.
  4. Fill in the information required then proceed to make payment as indicated. Fee charged for the logbook is Kshs 500 and a convenience fee of Kshs 50.
  5. Submit your application and wait for about 5 days for NTSA to process the application.
  6. An SMS will be sent to you via your registered mobile phone number once the logbook is ready for collection.
